Saab Boss Says Britain is Far Behind Europe on Biofuels
Saab’s UK chief believes that Britain is falling far behind some other European countries in terms of adopting new biofuel technology.
According to the car company’s managing director, by the name of Jonathan Nash, to give confidence to motorists and other players in the emerging sector, stronger signals were needed from government.
He cited Sweden as an example. He said that new and reconditioned filling stations in it were only given planning permission if they stocked E85, which is blended using 85 percent ethanol. In effect, motorists could buy the fuel in more than 800 locations. In the UK it is only available at 15 Morrisons filling stations.
Mr. Nash also said that cars that are designed to run on E85 had a 20 percent increase in power and a 30 percent increase in torque as compared to those running on conventional fuel, but could still use straight petrol where necessary. According to him, people can use cars with smaller engines.
He added that with the technology, sales of Saab models had jumped to 85 percent of total output since they were launched in Sweden and Ireland, in less than 12 months.
He continued that consumers are ready to make the wise choices when offered the right tools, but the government has to offer a long-term but reachable framework.
The managing director further said that LPG or liquid petroleum gas was killed by government policy and that it is now a dead technology. Thus, there are no new and more modern cars that are built with original equipment for LPG.
About Saab
The name SAAB is actually an acronym of “Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget” which means “Swedish Aircraft Company.” Their aircraft legacy is more than a novel piece of historical trivia: It is a persistent design philosophy that makes Saab stand out. Evidences are seen in the cockpit-inspired interiors, the ergonomic controls, and the sleek, aerodynamic lines. Saab AB manufactures broad-based systems solutions, products and services in civil security, defense, aviation and space as well as related areas in the global market. Gripen, developed by Saab AB, is the first of the new generation, multi-role combat aircraft to enter service.
The company sought ways in which to diversify its business and it started to manufacture Saab Automobiles in the late 1940s. The automobile division was based in Trollhättan with the first car being the Saab 92001 on launched in June 10, 1947.
Over the years, Saab designers have been creating innovations such as turbo engines, heated seats, active head restraint systems, cabin air filters, headlamp washers and more.

Help Clean Up Air Pollution – Can We Improve Air Quality by Reducing Pollution?
One of the biggest reasons that we can have poor air quality is form fuel burning cars and factories. If we want to have cleaner air then we can pass laws that will demand that the factories have to pass certain quality test or they can not operate. Also we need to have better emissions with our cars and it is possible within a short period of time to get cars to emit zero emissions. By doing this we will be able to improve air quality and it will make our ozone layer better as well.
Get Free: Air Quality Advice
You can not say enough about having clean air and we can go a period of time without food but if we do not have clean air then we are going to have big problem fast. We have heard how the poor quality has created a problem with our ozone layer. It is important that we always keep quality of our air at the fore front of our fight on global warming. If we make small changes then we can improve it to a point were we would not have any ozone issues at all. It is very possible that the car companies produce cars that have no air pollution at all.
Help Improve for: Better Air Quality
Remember that we need to have good air quality to survive and if we make some changes with our vehicles and our factories then we can create an environment where we can have clean air and reverse global warming. Help to make these changes possible and live in a world that we can be proud of.
STAGES OF GLOBALISATION
STAGES OF GLOBALISATION
Normally, a firm passes through different stages of development before it becomes a truly global corporation. Typically, a domestic firm starts its international business by exporting. Later it may establish joint ventures or subsidiaries abroad. From an international firm it may then develop into a multinational firm and finally into a global one.
Ohmae identifies five different stages in the development of a firm into a global corporation. The first stage is the arm’s length service activity of essentially domestic company which moves into new markets overseas by linking up with local dealers and distributors. In stage two, the company takes over these activities on its own. In the next stage, the domestic based company begins to carry out its own manufacturing, marketing and sales in the key foreign markets. In stage four, the company moves to a full insider position in these markets, supported by a complete business system including R & D and engineering. This stage calls on the managers to replicate in a new environment the hardware, systems and operational approaches that have worked so well at home. It forces them to extend the reach of domestic headquarters, which now has to provide support functions such as personnel and finance, to all overseas activities. Although stage four, the headquarters mentality continues to dominate. Different local operations are linked, their relation to each other established by their relation to the centre.
In the fifth stage, the company moves toward a genuinely global mode of operation. In this context Ohmae points out that a company’s ability to serve local customers in markets around the globe in ways that are truly responsive to their needs as well as to the global character of its industry depends on its ability to strike a new organisational balance. What is called for is what Akio Morita of Sony has termed global localisation, a new orientation .that simultaneously looks in both directions.
Getting to stage five, however, means venturing onto new ground altogether. Ohmae argues that to make this organisational transition, a company must denationalise their operations and create a system of values shared by corporate managers around the globe to replace the glue a nation based orientation once provided.
Ohmae further observes that today’s global corporations are nationalityless because consumers have become less nationalistic. True global corporations serve the interests of customers, not Governments. They do not exploit local situations and then repatriate all the profits back home, leaving each local area poorer for their having been there. They invest, they train, they pay taxes, they build up infrastructure and they provide good value to customers in all the countries where they do business. IBM Japan, for instance, has provided employment to about 20,000 Japanese and over the past decade has provided three times more tax revenue to the Japanese Government than has the Japanese company Fujitsu.”
Many firms across the world has ambitious plans to become global.

Biofuels – What Can You Do?
One of the best things about biomass is that everyone makes their own literally and everyone can potentially put it to greater use.
On a Personal Scale
A quick search of the web will turn up hundreds of resources on personal-scale biomass energy, including information on products, procedures, energy loans, tax incentives, sources, energy providers and other important data. Here are some things you can do.
* Manufacture your own biodiesel. That’s right. Using common feedstock, anyone in the U.S. can make a gallon of biodiesel for less than a buck. Where do you get feedstock? One common source is restaurants, which have gallons of used vegetable oils they have to dispose of anyway. There are many other sources. With a biodiesel manufacturing setup you can make enough biodiesel to run your car (say, 10 gallons per week) on about %5 to $7 per week, $300 to $400 a year. Buy a brand new diesel car, Volkswagen, for instance, promotes all of its diesels as biofriendly, and stop lining the pockets of the price-gouging, earth-raping, water-polluting oil companies (and you know who they are).
* Buy a diesel vehicle and run it with biodiesel or, at minumum, B20. Better yet, watch for the diesel/electric hybrids that manufacturers have been developing.
On a Community/Regional Scale
* Just because you don’t have any local biofuel makers nearby doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. Biofuel is no longer a ‘fringe’ product, so with a little research and an investment in human energy you can probably convince your town, or your school system, or a group of people interested in forming a cooperative, to do something along these lines:
* Thanks to pressure to “clean up its act,” a public utility in the state of New Hampshire converted a 50-megawatt power plant that had previously been run on coal to on now operating entirely on wood chips as a feedstock. Rather than burning130,000 tons of coal each year, it now uses 400,000 tons of wood scrap from local resources, and emits just a quarter of the NOX and only 2 percent of the SO2 previously pouring into the air.
* The Portland, Oregon, school system has long been a staunch supporter of the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle way of life. Now the schools system has convinced the local division of the largest waste hauler in the U.S. Waste Management, Inc., to run its fleet on B20 biodiesel.
Generating Wind Energy
Just like solar energy, wind energy is another environment-friendly and economical energy source. With almost 40% of wind energy sources of Europe in the United Kingdom, there is immense potential to use wind energy as a source of energy.
Generating power through wind is not only efficient but also renewable like solar energy. The only downside is that a tall, moderately sized generator can be a sore eye and spoil the visual landscape, leading to murmurs of disapproval among neighbours. Think about this before you go ahead and think about how to generate wind energy in your area. However, if you do not live in a very populated area and your neighbors consent to your wind energy project, there could be nothing more beneficial to harness the potential of such a natural and renewable resource called wind.
Getting Help in the Start
If you are wondering how to generate wind energy, the British Wind Energy Association or BWEA is a good professional source of services and information for initiating projects related to wind energy. This professional body continuously organizes and manages several initiatives to propagate the use of wind as a source of energy across the country and its residences. It has information on local suppliers of wind systems and information on grants and permissions.
The ‘Energy Saving Trust’ which is backed by the government also provides provide advice on several issues for both companies and individuals and companies desiring to install wind generators on a small scale.
Other Practicalities like Cost and Savings
The cost of wind generators should fall in the range of 3000 pounds -15000 pounds for each kilowatt. This is as competitive as solar and actually slightly cheap when compared to the high output it generates. It is also expected to generate higher output in a year compared to its output in the previous year. Your wind generator should break even in about five years and the way the prices of normal energy sources are increasing, the returns of a wind generator will surely increase over a period of time.
How to Position Your Turbine
It is best to place the turbine high if you want to get the most of the wind strength without any obstructions. Also make sure to measure the wind strength in your locality so that you can place the turbine facing the direction where the wind is prevailing. To measure the wind strength, you can either buy or hire an anemometer. You can also get the person installing your wind generator to do that.
Battery or Grid?
A battery can be connected to wind generators of small scale to provide electricity to your house. The other option is to connect the wind generator to the National Grid. The decision to do the former or the latter depends totally on the circumstance. As such there is no major difference except that it will affect the direction of your energy. If you happen to stay in an area that is remote with no access to the National Grid, energy should then be directed to the battery which in turn will be connected to your residence’s mains. If you can easily access the National Grid, get the generator connected to the grid. By connecting to the grid not only will you be benefited from power savings by not using the supply of electricity from the grid, you will also be able to sell surplus electricity to the grid.

Chemical Manufacturers Need To Keep Up With Globalisation And Innovation
Thanks to the increasing globalisation in the chemical industry today as well as the heightened competition and ebb and flow of supply and demand, your company just might not be able to keep up with some of the processes and manufacturing anymore. Whether you are dealing with polymers, fine chemicals, resins or dispersants, choosing a company amongst the many chemical manufacturers that can handle this for you is paramount.
Boosting Business by Outsourcing
Reducing costs is the name of the game no matter what the business is. Of course, the only way to compete is to ensure you have the latest technologies and safety processes for your business. However, what if your company simply does not have the budget for it? Before long, your company would not be able to compete in the marketplace. Unfortunately, the chemical manufacturers with the best innovations win.
When you can no longer effectively compete by manufacturing your own chemical-based products or develop your own products or process developments, it is time to outsource and reduce your bottom line. This is actually a smart move because you no longer have to invest in new strategies and technologies to compete. Rather, you just have to choose a chemical manufacturing company to outsource to that invests in innovative processes, research and development and safety measures. Let them bear the burden of being competitive with other chemical companies.
By outsourcing to a chemical contract manufacturer, you can concentrate on the portion of your business that is the most competitive in the marketplace. The hard part is finding the right chemical manufacturers to work with that would best suit your needs.
Choosing the Right Company
One of the best things about choosing a chemical company in the UK is the fact that the government gives tax incentives to companies so they can focus on research and development. This means the company you choose will likely have more streamlined, quality processes over companies in other countries. Cleaner technology and higher efficiency ratings should also be expected.
Choose a company that is versatile and adaptable in various technologies such as polymers, fine chemicals, dyes and pre-polymers. While you may only need to focus on one aspect of their technology at a time, you would know they have the ability to take care of any chemical planning, processing and manufacturing needs should they evolve in your business.
Reputation in the industry for safety, good customer service and innovations is important too. You want a company with a long, varied history in the chemical manufacturing business. This history should illustrate a clear progression of innovation as technologies have improved and changed. In addition, the chemical company you choose should also have a long list of satisfied customers as well.
While the chemical business is huge in the UK, generating billions of dollars each year, you should focus on your particular piece of the pie. Choose a company from the many chemical manufacturers that align with your goals, provide excellent customer service and can easily adapt to your needs for overall success.
